Dyrup's History and Management

History
Dyrup A/S was founded in 1928 by Sigurd Dyrup, Axel Monberg and Ejnar Thorsen, who operated the company as an unlisted limited company until 1970, when the company was admitted to the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. The company remained listed until 1996, when it merged with Monberg & Thorsen Holding, which delisted the shares in connection with its acquisition of the whole of the share capital.

In 1947, Dyrup established production abroad, in Portugal, in collaboration with Højgaard & Schultz in connection with the construction of a Portuguese bridge. The company, Tintas Dyrup, Portugal, became wholly-owned by Dyrup in 1993.

In the 90s, Dyrup changed its strategy to focus on becoming the leading European manufacturer of wood care products. In continuation of this strategy, Dyrup acquired Xylochimie in France and GORI in Denmark in 1991 and Veraline, France, in 1992. The existing European platform was created by acquisition of Pinturas Ricolor, Spain, in 1991, DIP Battley in France in 1996 and Akro, Spain, in 1999, and by establishment of Dyrup's Polish company in 1994. The strategy meant that Dyrup's European market share for wood care products increased from 5% to 20% in the 90s, whereas its share of the paint market remained 1%.

At the beginning of 2000, Dyrup realigned its strategy, focusing on sales of paint and wood care products throughout Europe. The development in the markets and the realigned strategy underlined the need to achieve critical mass to offer a complete product programme to leading distributors at European level

In 2002 a new business concept, shop-in-shop, was introduced across Europe. Dyrup's oldest brand, GORI, celebrated its centenary.

In 2003 Dyrup celebrated its 75th anniversary and, on 1 January 2004 Dyrup was awarded 'Copenhagen County Environmental Award 2003'.

In 2009 Dyrup sold its industriel activities to Finnish Teknos and strengthened its PRO activities by acquiring Hygæa.

In 2010 Dyrup acquired the Polish paint manufacturer Malfarb.
