MT Højgaard's History and Management

History

MT Højgaard is a young company with a tradition for innovation. Over the years MT Højgaard has left a mark on a multitude of building projects in Denmark and abroad.

It all began shortly after the First World War. Europe was still in a state of turmoil, while in Denmark, reunification in 1920 gave rise to a mood of national optimism. The firms Monberg & Thorsen and Højgaard & Schultz were founded shortly before the reunification. The technical basis for both companies was the new eras building technology: reinforced concrete.

The two companies have since their foundation in 1918 and 1919 carried out many remarkable projects - where the construction of several great bridges stands out. 1928-35 Construction of the Little Belt Bridge, Construction of the Farø Bridges in 1980-84, Construction of the Great Belt Bridge in 1989-93 and Construction of the Øresund Bridge in 1995-00.
MT and HS merged on 21 March 2001, becoming Denmark's leading contractor - MT Højgaard a/s.
