MT Højgaard’s history dates back to 1918 and 1919, when Monberg & Thorsen and Højgaard & Schultz were founded. The bedrock competence of both companies was the new building material of that time: reinforced concrete.
Monberg & Thorsen and Højgaard & Schultz executed many remarkable projects in the 1900s, including the construction of several important Danish bridges:
- The Little Belt Bridge (1928-35)
- The Faro Bridges (1980-84)
- The Great Belt Bridge (1989-93)
- The Øresund Bridge (1995-00)
